IZN Scientific Events Information for Speakers

You will be presenting your research to the IZN community at our seminar or lecture series? Here are some things to know:

  • Labs from IZN members are located in both Heidelberg and Mannheim, but lectures and seminars are presented in person in Heidelberg. To make these events more accessible to our Mannheim colleagues, we stream all lectures via Zoom and employ a special not-laser pointer that is also visible online.
  • It is advisable to integrate the start of all video clips into the click sequence of your presentation, as starting via mouse click on the video introduces delays due to the necessity of moving the mouse pointer from the presentation window (located on the projection screen) to the presenter view window (located on the computer screen) and back. This quirk derives from the fact that the not-laser pointer is only active when the mouse pointer is positioned over the presentation window on the projection screen.
  • Please arrive to the seminar room at least ten minutes in advance of your presentation for set up.
  • Our seminar room has a PC that is equipped for sound and video both locally and remotely and can run Microsoft Powerpoint.
  • You may bring your presentation on a data stick, or you may use your own computer.  If you use your own computer, then please note:
    • You will need to access the internet on the Heidelberg campus (eduroam).
    • You will need to use Zoom.
    • You will need to inactivate the sound from your computer for Zoom to prevent reverberations in the seminar room.
    • You will need two adapters: one for an HDMI cable to connect to the projector, and one for a USB dongle to connect to our not-laser pointer (which will also be visible online). You are of course welcomed to use your own such pointer if you prefer.
